Choosing an interior design firm in Singapore is harder than it should be. Hundreds of companies describe themselves the same way, quote in lump sums that hide what is excluded, and show portfolios that may or may not be their own work. This page is written to help you tell the difference — using us as the worked example.
What Separates a Design-Led Firm From a Package Seller
Most of what is sold as interior design in Singapore is a renovation package with a mood board attached. The layout barely changes, the carpentry comes from whichever subcontractor is free, and the design fee is really a margin on materials. It can be perfectly adequate. It is not design.
A design-led firm starts somewhere else entirely: with how you actually live in the space, what the property will and will not allow, and where the budget should be directed. The drawings follow that. So does the carpentry, the lighting plan, and the sequence of works. When you are comparing interior design firms in Singapore, the difference shows up in the first meeting — in whether you are shown a catalogue or asked questions.
What We Do
Residential Interior Design
HDB flats, condominiums, landed homes and penthouses — full interior design and renovation, planned around how the household actually uses the space.
Loft & High-Ceiling Specialists
Known as The Loft Builder — mezzanine structures, loft conversions and double-volume spaces. The most technically demanding residential work in Singapore, and our signature.
Commercial & Workplace
Offices, retail, F&B and clinics — planned operations-first, phased around a business that usually has to keep trading through the works.
Carpentry Made In-House
Carpentry is the largest line in most Singapore renovations. We fabricate ours at our own factory, which is why our schedules hold and our finishes stay consistent.
Five Ways to Judge Any Interior Design Firm
Use these on us, and on everyone else you are shortlisting. A firm confident in its work will not mind the questions.
- Ask to see the licence.
HDB works require a contractor on the HDB Directory of Renovation Contractors. Ours is HB-12-6290F. It takes ten seconds to verify, and it rules out a surprising number of firms.
- Ask who makes the carpentry.
Most firms outsource it and cannot tell you which workshop until the project starts. That single answer explains most delays and most finish-quality complaints in this industry.
- Ask for an itemised quote, after a site visit.
Not a package price, not a “from $X” figure. A number produced without seeing your home is a guess dressed up as a price — and the gap gets settled later, as variations.
- Ask whose projects are in the portfolio.
Ask for the address, the year, and who the designer was. Real projects have answers. Ours are published individually with the actual development names — browse the portfolio and check.
- Ask what happens after handover.
Defects appear in the first months, not the first week. Find out who you call, and whether the same team answers.
For the longer version, with the questions worth asking at each stage, read our guide on how to choose an interior design firm in Singapore.
How We Work
- Consultation and site assessment.
We see the actual space before we quote. Always.
- Design development.
Space planning and 3D visuals, so you approve a space you can already picture rather than a drawing you have to decode.
- Itemised fixed quote.
Line by line, against a defined scope — so there are no surprises later, in either direction.
- Build.
One project team, our own joinery, and coordination of every trade on site.
- Handover and defects.
Joint inspection, snagging closed, and the same people still reachable afterwards.
We do not publish package prices, because a figure that ignores your actual property is not useful to you. What a project costs depends on condition, scope and finish level — our renovation cost guide sets out honest market ranges before you speak to anyone.
Interior Design by Property Type
Different properties ask different questions of a designer. Each of these has its own approach, its own constraints, and its own completed work.

Questions Homeowners Ask Us
What does an interior design firm in Singapore actually charge?
For most homes, a full renovation lands somewhere between S$25,000 and S$120,000 depending on property type, condition and scope. Design fees are usually quoted within that, not on top. Any firm giving you a number before seeing the property is guessing.
What is the difference between an interior design firm and a renovation contractor?
A contractor builds what they are given. A design firm decides what should be built — layout, light, storage, materials — and then takes responsibility for building it. We work as design-and-build, so one team owns both halves and there is no gap for details to fall through.
How long does a project take?
Typically four to five weeks for design and quotation, then eight to twelve weeks on site for a residential project. Commercial fit-outs run six to twelve weeks on site, plus landlord and authority approvals. We map the programme at proposal stage rather than after you commit.
Do you take on smaller projects?
Yes. A well-planned three-room flat is a more interesting brief than a large budget spent carelessly. What matters is that the scope and the budget agree with each other.
Are you licensed for HDB renovation works?
Yes — HDB Licence HB-12-6290F, under IS Design Studio Pte. Ltd. (UEN 202308000K). We handle the permit process as part of the project.
Talk to Us Before You Shortlist
The first conversation costs nothing and is useful even if you go elsewhere — you will leave knowing what your property allows, roughly what it should cost, and which questions to put to the other firms on your list.
