Design Concept Dark Opulence — The Power of Contrast, The Luxury of Depth

The design concept for Dunearn Road is built upon a single daring conviction: that true luxury does not always arrive in light. While the broader Singapore interior design landscape gravitates toward pale timbers and neutral tones, IS Design Studio took the opposite direction here — leading with shadow, depth, and richness to create an interior of unmistakable character and presence.

The concept is named Dark Opulence — a deliberate choreography of dark-stained oak, black-veined marble, rose-toned stone, and bronzed hardware that draws the eye inward and slows the pace of the home. Spaces are layered with intention: the dining zone envelops you like a private members' club, the living and study area grounds itself in warm greige and natural timber, the master bedroom asserts its authority through espresso-toned sliding wardrobes, and the children's room offers a playful, tender counterpoint in blush and cream.

What unifies these seemingly contrasting worlds is a rigorous commitment to material quality and detail at every scale — from the custom circular dark marble door pull to the precision-cut reeded sliding panels in the children's wardrobe, from the full-height brass-framed vitrine cabinet to the tonal precision of the kitchen's stone-effect backsplash and Silestone countertop. Every room in this home has been given its own distinct identity, yet each speaks the same underlying language of considered, courageous design.

Dunearn Road is not a home for the timid. It is a home for those who know who they are — and want their space to reflect it.
Unique featuresDramatic Rose Marble Triptych Feature Wall
The soul of the home is the dining zone's feature wall — three monumental panels of rose-toned marble with dramatic diagonal veining, framed in matte black steel profiles that give the composition the gravity of a gallery installation. By day, the warm terracotta and blush tones of the stone glow in natural light filtering through sheer curtains. By night, concealed backlighting bathes the panels in amber warmth, transforming the wall into something genuinely theatrical. There is nothing else quite like it in Singapore residential interior design.

Curved Leather Banquette Dining Nook
Beneath the marble triptych sits a custom curved leather banquette — a semicircular booth upholstered in deep taupe channel-stitched leather that wraps around a round black marble table. This intimate dining configuration, more at home in a Michelin-starred restaurant than a private residence, elevates the act of dining from routine to ritual. Paired with dark sculptural dining chairs and a botanical ginkgo-leaf chandelier overhead, it is one of the most arresting interior moments IS Design Studio has ever created.

Sculptural Botanical Ginkgo Chandelier
Suspended above the dining table, a statement chandelier fashioned from delicate brass-framed ginkgo leaf forms casts a constellation of warm light across the ceiling — its organic, branching silhouette forming a striking counterpoint to the bold geometry of the marble panels below. This single lighting fixture alone announces that Dunearn Road is a home where no detail has been left to chance.

Bespoke Built-In Terrarium Niche
In what is perhaps the most distinctive custom feature of this project, a full-scale living terrarium has been built into the wall joinery — a lush, dramatically lit ecosystem of tropical foliage, driftwood, moss, and ferns set within a large glass enclosure and custom black-framed niche. Positioned above its own dedicated dark oak storage cabinet, the terrarium functions simultaneously as a living artwork, a statement of the owners' personality, and a genuine conversation piece that simply cannot be found in any other home in Singapore.

Custom Circular Dark Marble Door Pull
In a detail that only reveals itself up close, the pivot door separating the dining zone from the corridor features a custom circular pull crafted from dark emperador marble — its richly veined surface a deliberate echo of the black marble dining table. Set against a fabric-wrapped door panel in deep olive, this single hardware detail captures the spirit of the entire project: every decision, however small, made with intention and craft.

Pink Blush Children's Room with Reeded Glass Wardrobe
In deliberate and delightful contrast to the dark grandeur of the main living spaces, the children's bedroom is a world of soft blush powder pink — from the custom-painted floor-to-ceiling wardrobe to the matching timber bed frame. The wardrobe's sliding doors feature large reeded glass panels framed in matte black, introducing a sophisticated material detail that ensures the room grows beautifully with its young occupant. The macro close-up photography of this door reveals craftsmanship at a level rarely seen in children's bedroom joinery.

Dark Espresso Sliding Wardrobe in Master Bedroom
The master bedroom wardrobe is a commanding presence — finished in a deep espresso-brown wood-grain laminate with brass inlay reveals framing the sliding door panels. The tonal combination of dark chocolate timber and warm brass is understated yet unmistakably luxurious, anchoring the bedroom's mood with the same gravitas found throughout the rest of the home.

Full-Height Bronze-Framed Vitrine Display Cabinet Adjoining the dining zone, a slim full-height vitrine cabinet with bronzed metal frame and glass doors serves as a curated display space for the owners' most prized objects — a refined, gallery-quality storage solution that adds architectural depth to the wall while allowing treasured pieces to be seen and celebrated rather than hidden away.

Handleless Stone Kitchen with Integrated Dish Rack Cabinet
The kitchen at Dunearn Road is a masterpiece of tonal restraint — every surface finished in a warm greige stone-effect laminate and matching Silestone countertop, with a breathtaking rose-veined marble slab backsplash tying the kitchen visually back to the dining feature wall. A matt gunmetal pull-out tap and undermount sink complete the look. Most remarkably, a dedicated upper cabinet has been designed to conceal a stainless steel dish rack — a practical necessity handled with such elegance that it disappears entirely into the kitchen's seamless aesthetic.

Fluted Tile Shower Enclosure with Rain Shower
The common bathroom features fine vertical fluted tiles in warm cream, a rain shower head, and a dark vanity with undermount basin topped in deep charcoal stone — a compact space that nonetheless delivers a hotel-calibre bathing experience in keeping with the overall tone of the home.
